We’re having an All A2 broomball event. What that means is that we’re combining groups from Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, and San Jose State to play broomball at the Cupertino Ice Center on November 7th at 10pm. However, this event will be preceded by an awesome pot luck dinner that the staff is preparing at 7pm.

Really, it’s a lot of fun. You play “hockey” on ice with shoes on, and a “broom” instead of a hockey stick. And, if you don’t really want to play, there will be plenty of people along the sides of the rink just chilling (pun fully intended).  It’s a good time for fun and fellowships. Oh…and eating.

The other day, I ran across an interesting article on remaining faithful while in college. I’m pasting a short excerpt on the importance of finding a good church, but the article has many other interesting sections on friends, studying, purity, and seeking God. Find and join a good church

This is task number one. In fact, if there’s opportunity to influence the list of prospective students, it’s wise to first pick the cities with strong churches and then consider schools nearby. Why should someone neglect their spiritual lives for four or more years simply because they’re going to college? Many don’t intend to inflict such neglect on themselves, but that’s what happens when they head off to college with no idea where they will receive regular instruction from the Word, spiritual care and fellowship.

A good church is one where the exposition of the Scripture is central to the preaching and the life of the congregation. It’s a place where membership is practiced; that is, where pastors take seriously their responsibility for overseeing souls in their care and members submit to that care and care for each other, in part, by officially joining the church.

Joining a church is a declaration that you want to be cared for spiritually by the congregation and that you’re pledging yourself to care for others. And a good church, then, is a place where accountability, encouragement, and both positive and corrective discipline are practiced.

Forget about the allurements of singles groups or college ministries. Those can be very beneficial, but they’re not the stuff upon which a solid church is based.

Sherry hadn’t thought of finding a church. She didn’t know the area surrounding the campus at all. If she were to remain a growing Christian in college she needed to correct this omission right away. I scribbled a note to contact pastor friends who may have some recommendations…

We’re going to the beach!  This Saturday, 10/18, we’ll be heading out to New Brighton State Beach in Santa Cruz with the A2CFs from UC Santa Cruz and San Jose State.  Come enjoy the ocean, play some sports, roast some hotdogs and s’mores, and hang out!  We’ll be leaving Stanford at about 2:00 p.m.   Email Jason (jbau at stanford period edu) if you need a ride!

Just a reminder that tomorrow’s Bible study will be from 6:00-7:30 (with dinner) at Bechtel-Back Lounge.  We’ll be starting our study on the gospel of John tomorrow, Friday 10/3

Welcome back to school, everyone!  And for the frosh out there, welcome to Stanford!

If you’re looking for more info about A2, we will be at the Frosh and Faith event held on the 3rd floor of the Old Union (Tues 9/16, 2-4 p.m.).

Next Friday (9/26), come by our table in White Plaza (right outside Old Union) during the Student Activities fair (for some good freebies, of course).  Then, from 6:00-7:30 pm, we’ll have our Student Welcome Night (with dinner!) at Bechtel.  Come join us for some food, fellowship, and Bible Study!

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new people!

We are a community of undergraduate students and staff that meets for Bible studies and small group activities. Our name comes from Acts 2:42 in the Bible.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

We usually have weekly Bible studies that closely read one book of the Bible. This past year, we covered Acts (of course), and we’ve studied Mark and Luke as well.
